I thought 'noise' came from distance and unstability,
... so I won't be able to help - yet I would like to see the answer.

Re: Photography lessons
Hi STF,
Older model cameras (& some newer ones) always have noise the higher the ISO you use. The only way to reduce noise is to reduce your ISO. Some photographers deliberately use noise for effect, while others don't like it at all.
You could try a noise reducing program in post processing.
The only way to avoid it in this situation would have been to reduce the ISO and use a flash to lighten the subject.

I think you will always get a bit of grain at ISO/ASA 1000...but I'd agree with nan...open your aperture as much as possible.
Let's see what the pro's say.

That's just about it and well said Dewi.
"Noise" can be compared to grain like experienced in the old days!!
The higher the ISO the more grain.
The big problem here in this discussion would be shortage of light!!
Hence,....
equipment!!!,,, sadly so and with limitations,...

The longer the exposure, to gain exposure value,
the better chance of shake and depth of field,...
dismal hey, wait, many photographers gained world
recognition by finding a solution for the situation!!!
A fact, especially B/W photographers!!!

Thanks very much everybody.
Next time I will try lower the ISO and open my aperture more - I assume this means lower the f stop?

Re: Photography lessons
That's just about it STF, everything at a cost!!
It's about how you manipulate the conditions and
get creative with what you have........
A technically correct shot does not always mean a
5 star award winning photo. However some photo's
with the least acquired equipment,,... often rule
best!!!
Get creative!!!!
