A Weekend in Grietjie

Post by Flutterby »

Friends of ours recently finished building a house in Grietjie Private Nature Reserve and invited us and other friends to spend the long weekend with them. SO wasn't so keen but the Brat and I overruled him! :-0

We had planned to leave at 5am on Friday morning but we eventually got away just after 6. We had been told to go via Polokwane and Tzaneen on the N1...bad choice!!! :O^ I think everyone else from Gauteng was on that road...the queue at the first toll road was about 1km long and it took us over half an hour to get through! 0- The rest weren't much better. It took us 3 hours to do just over 200kms, and we eventually arrived at Grietjie after 7 hours!! 0*\

But we had made it and were in for a treat...this was a far cry from our normal Kruger accommodation!! Tony had done much of the building himself with the help of some local builders and he did a fantastic job! It's a five bedroom house, and each bedroom has an en suite bathroom.

This is a picture which Tony took with a drone. There are 3 bedrooms downstairs and two upstairs at either end. There were 11 of us in total but there was plenty of space.

We had one of the downstairs' rooms.

All the bathrooms have one-way glass so you can see out but no-one can see in.

The view is amazing!

A lasagne for lunch went down very well with some cold Sauvignon Blanc!

Tony and Anita...our hosts for the weekend.

Stunning looking place they have. What plot number are they?

They are on 104. Is that close to you?

Not really. When you enter the gate, at the cross road you turn left to them, but carry on straight to us. We are on number 23.

You're nice and close to the river. \O

Now you know what they look like you can say hello if you ever bump into them. I mentioned you to them. ;-)

How big are the plots? Approximately.... I can see that some are bigger than others, but the medium size apart from 1 to 18 and 113 to 117, which are smaller.

Is there something special on plot n. 126?

Looks great ! That's must be fun to have a house in a reserve.

Do the animals roam freely between all the plots or are they restricted to only one part of the reserve ?

It looks very nice inside and as a whole very functional too \O (apart from a shower cabin missing, but maybe some of the rooms have one ;-) )
