Re: Rietvlei Nature Reserve through Greenies' Eyes
Thanks very much nan, Flutterby, Amoli and Richprins for your comments.
I must say again that the service I received from Mario, a warden at Rietvlei, was really fantastic.
Some more birds that I saw:
Black shouldered kite.
Cape longclaw with its breakfast.
Rufus naped lark giving me a show of a lifetime just as the sun came out.
Last few to follow.

The final few feathered fellows.
Could this be a sand martin????
Giant kingfisher at Otter Bridge just about to regurgitate his breakfast.
Looking well pleased with himself.
Finally a pair of European bee eaters.
That's all for now folks. Thanks for watching.

Some brilliant pictures here and it looks as if this reserve is worth to be visited

Re: Rietvlei Nature Reserve through Greenies' Eyes
I took a drive through this morning to see how the rains have affected the reserve.
The animals were very absent... and the areas around the rivers and dams very muddy.
Some dirt roads were closed and the ones I travelled were well maintained.
Otterdam is closed off completely due to overflowing water, and you had to drive via Vlei road to the coffee shop.
I saw the Buzzard twice. I only took pics the second time as I wanted to get to close the first time and scared it off.
The second pics were great far distance blurry's.
Otterdam
Saw a Pied Starling with munchies and I remembered the Liquoice all sorts in the cubby... hmm.
A drove around to the other side of Otterdam and had the view all to myself.
A nice size fishy caught - that should fill him well. Time for the lunch-bar chockie.
