Kruger Park field rangers implicated in rhino poaching granted R10k bail each
SANParks said internal disciplinary procedures against them were also underway.
Two Kruger National Park field rangers, who were arrested in connection with rhino poaching, have been granted bail R10 000 each, South African National Parks (SANParks) said on Friday.
Lucky Mkansi, 30, and Nzima Joe Sihlangu, 32, were arrested on Tuesday in Crocodile Bridge on suspicion of involvement in rhino poaching.
On Thursday, the pair appeared in Skukuza Magistrate’s Court and were granted bail.
SANParks said internal disciplinary procedures against them were also underway. Bail was fixed at R10,000 each with strict conditions, which included not travelling without informing the investigating officer, barring them from having contact either physically or by electronic means with other rangers, as well as being under 24-hour house arrest.
A third field ranger who was also arrested was due to appear at the Bushbuckridge Magistrate Court on Friday.

Isn't the bail a bit too low?
Why are they also doing an internal disciplinary procedure?

very low considering how much they supposedly get for poaching the horns.
They have to follow the procedure to get rid of them Lis else the labour laws protect them forever more and they will continue to get paid by Sanparks even though they criminals !

Sometimes the laws are too protective. I must admit though, that it is difficult to do it right as a law has to be generalized.

SANPARKS ANNOUNCES ARRESTS AMONG ITS STAFF
The South African National Parks (SANParks) today announced the arrest of four suspected poachers including a staff member in an intelligence driven operation. The arrests took place on Friday 15 February 2019 in the Kruger National Park (KNP)
The four were arrested in an operation led by members of the SANParks Rangers Corps and supported by SANParks Environmental Investigation Unit (ECI) and the SAPS.
The four arrested suspects were found in possession of a high calibre hunting rifle, two rhino horns, hunting equipment and were driving in two cars which have since been confiscated. Investigations are ongoing and further arrests can’t be ruled out at this stage.
The Chief Executive Officer of SANParks Mr Fundisile Mketeni explained that this was the result of an operation that was initiated to root out staff members who are colluding with outside people to poach animals in the KNP. “We are very disappointed every time a staff member is arrested, it shows that we have wolves clothed in sheep’s clothing who are working against the organisation. I want to warn those who still think they can get away with this betrayal, your day is coming sooner than you think” said Mketeni.
The suspects will appear in court in due course.
