Latest poaching figures

Post by PennyinSA »

Rhino - 1013 PLUS
Elephant - 104 PLUS

I wonder if there is someone out there who can convert these figures to a percentage as given the previous years losses I am pretty sure this would indicate an increase.

What is the period you are talking of, Penny?

The 2018 figures came out late last year?

viewtopic.php?f=197&t=8849

Between 1 January 2018 and 31 August 2018 508 rhino were poached, compared to 691 for the same period in 2017.

Rhino poaching numbers in the Kruger National Park also continue to decline. In the period under review, a total of 292 rhino were poached, compared to 332 in the same period last year.

I saw these figures published on OSCAP but haven't seen where they got them from yet -O- Still extremely scary numbers and .gov will probably pat itself on the back again how good they are

There are just so many fewer rhino left to poach, even in Kruger. Not just my opinion - had many chats. Also, antipoaching is a multi-billion rand industry, as Scipio warned us, with some poachers inside it. I don't see an outcome until supply falls way beyond demand, economically?

Rhino Deaths 2018 - TOTAL: 1139

https://poachtracker.oxpeckers.org/#/ma ... 3125000004

I have no idea how trustworthy that number is.

The last number on the OSCAP website is from 2015 0*\
