October isn’t the best time for my type of fishing, but as it was an awesome day I decided to duck down to one of my favourite spots near Umkomaas with the Cow and clan.

I put out a bonny as bait and didn’t expect much action.

15 minutes later the game was on, but I immediately knew it was a blackfin as she was bailing out the water just like a bass does.

I have hooked plenty of these over the years and know that only about 3 in 10 are landed, as their antics normally involve them rolling up your line, breaking traces, etc, so I called the Cow and gave her the rod to enjoy the short lived experience, but after 2 minutes the shark was still on and was now emptying the reel at great speed, so I started to tighten up on the drag, which caused the Cow to squawk as she was about to go water skiing, so I took over again.

An hour later I realized that mates would be required to get this one out, so the Cow was tasked to find willing mates in the area to assist, who fortunately arrived

Don't think we will be able to wear that uniform for our big fishing trip in 2014. It may be a tad chilly.

Northern Iceland. Summer 2014. A gang of us are going fishing for a week in some spectacular scenery. Should be a good trip.

BC, think I'm gonna need some thermals in lieu of those shorts & t-shirts. -O
