The Vaalpan Heron might be resident, there are many sightings througout the year :-?

So far we have always seen black-headed herons at Vaalpan when we drove the upper dune road :yes:

Not sure, but most of the time we have seen an adult and a juvi.

My photos are not conclusive regarding the kill. But something furry. Guess it's a striped mouse

our first sighting we had at Vaalpan and it was one of our best on this road

There is something else than korhaans, bustards, jackals, ostriches, gemsbok, steenbok and goshawks to be seen on that road! ^Q^

The lioness didn't seem to be too happy with her guy that day. lol

The upper dune road is definetly prime gemsbok territory :-)

Estimated abundance for gemsbok (data from 2011) for the Kalahari Gemsbok Park:

Wet season: 8,146 - 8,884

Dry season: 6,692 - 9,700

The most common mammal in the park :yes:

Springbok are only abundant in the river beds, gemsbok are everywhere O**

Have you ever seen a springbok in the duneveld? ^0^
