Bird Books & Apps

For the last three trips I have been circling the bird books - always wanting to buy a second one.
Currently I got the Burger / Oberprierler - Birds of Southern Africa. It's a good one but I feel I
could do with something more comprehensive. But I'm just not sure which one to choose.
A Roberts? A Sasol? Any other?

Which one(s) have you got and why do you think it's / they're good?

The paintings are sort of Roberts, without being too big a book, regarding the soft-cover version!

Agree with RP.

Probably the best one for travelling with only one book at hand.

In saying that, some people prefer photos to paintings and others prefer the layouts in other books, so if you are familiar with your book, stick to the guide that you are most comfortable with.

I have a SASOL and have always been good at the ID challenges even without ever having seen any of the birds in question

I have both the Roberts and Sasol and I much prefer the Roberts. What is even better is the Roberts app for the iPhone and iPad.

Ja, I have seen that app and I got really jealous because it IS great.
Alas, I don't own an iPad or and iPhone. But I'm sure there is something
available for a netbook as well. (Or I'll just have to get a tablet...)

There is now also a new electronic one for LBSs. I think it looks fantastic and pretty useful for IDing LBJs
