On Wednesday morning about 6 green wood-hoopes came to visit and to top it all they brought their youngster with to introduce him to us. The following pics need no introduction.

Ok - that is the end of the show.

Next - a very rare visitor to my feeder tray - only the second time I have seen one.

Yes Flutterby, we are very blessed to have such a variety of our feathered friends popping in now and again.

Thanks very much nan.

Thanks Amoli. They do tend to be very very shy. If I try to move an inch closer they fly away.

On Thursday a couple of African Grey Hornbills came in for breakfast. We have only seen one once before and that was a juvenile and only managed a hurried shot.

A dove comes in to check out the new kid on the block.

Wondering what all the fuss is about.

And then along came a dove and started giving the hornbill a hard time........

....so he headed for the shelter of a tree. Note the dove watching him from above.
Image

Is it safe to come out now?????

That's it for now from our garden.

You are so right Flutterby. It is indeed a privilege to have had them visit. I just love their shrill "Pheeeeeew" call.

Some more pics from my garden.

A karoo thrush in our red berry tree.

A speckled face mouse-bird in the same tree.

A speckled face mouse-bird having a sand bath very late in the afternoon. The light was very bad and I had to set the camera on 1000 ASA and 1/400 which resulted in rather grainy and slightly out of focus pictures but still an unusual record for me.

That's all for now.
