Flavour of the Month Jan 2012: Mazithi Dam

Post by Flutterby »

Mazithi Dam is on the H1-3, north of Tshokwane, just south of the Trichardt Memorial.

From sa.travel-directory.co:
One of Kruger's favourite dams is Mazithi, located just south of the S33/S37 cross with the H1-3.

This is a great place for late afternoon photography, and if you are lucky you might find a whole herd of elephants coming to drink.

General game and waterbirds such as Egyptian geese are common here. Also look for the tiny red-billed buffalo weavers that build their large twig nests in the dead trees around the dam.

A herd of impala coming down to drink, with a pride of 22 lions under the trees in the background...can you spot them?

Hey, Flutts!

At this rate it won't be difficult to nominate the person to do February!

We've only seen lions there once, but always plenty of other game. The other dam you are talking about is Kumana, I think. Seen cheetah and leopard there, although the dam is normally dry.

These pics were all taken in the space of about 1 hour at Mazithi in October 2011. These were the pics I got when my mom deleted all of hers!!
