Time to mend some fences!!

Post by Flutterby »

These pics were posted on Facebook by Wynand Smit. He has given me permission to share them here.
Wynand Smit wrote:I recently drove approximately 40Km along the western fence of the Kruger National Park and this is what I found! No wonder the poaching in the area is so rife and that there are so many animals escaping from the park which end up being shot. This is shocking.
What remains of the electric fence.

No fence at all.

 The head peanuts of SANParks will probably deny that this was taken on the Kruger boundary. O/

They should rather repair and patrol these fences instead of wasting time and money on the buffer zone. 0-

It depends if this fence is between Kruger and parts of the "Greater Kruger", like Sabie/Sands, Timbavati or Manyeleti?

Those fences were removed, or should have been, years ago? -O-

Caution here!

There is not one foot of wire on the Kruger/Timbivati border, merely a sand road to mark the boundary, so I don't think it is in that area

This could even be north of Phalaborwa, which would be a problem!

This is what Wynand wrote on FB:

I hope to take this to the media. For approximately 40 Km there is no electricity on the fence and in some places there is no fences at all. There is well worn foot paths in and out of the park and even a well used two track path at one of the gates but not a sign of a management road nearby! And worst of all, it is in one of the highest rhino populated areas in the park. Seems that they are just turning a blind eye and let things happen as it may!

As I mentioned before, it is on the KNP fence, not on a private reserve. Further more, the KNP staff know the condition of the fence but they are just not doing something about it. This matter will be dealt with at a higher level than Freek Venter. The poor condition of the fence between the KNP and Sabi Game Park was reported to him just after he took over from Willem Gertenbach and still nothing has been done about it! In fact, that fence is now worst then it has ever been.

Should there be a fence between Kruger and Sabi Game Park?

The Sabi Game park is the one in Moz, right?
It has been mentioned somewhere else and as far as I remember, there should be a fence. Actually the SP ragers went there to fetch rhinos gone AWOL :-?

The rest is really preoccupying, actually it is a scandal with the level of poaching going on. Go in, go out nothing to stop the poachers. It's useless having the army in the park, if there are not fences 0- 0-

Let us hope to see this in the headlines!!!!!

Now I'm lost. Is this "fence" on the East or the Western side of the park? -O-
