There is absolutely nothing about his former experiences and where he has worked :-? Has he always worked for Sanparks -O- It is made very clear though, that he had no experience with wild life reserves before -O-

Almost all the board members are new :-? and there are 15 of them

Are there well known personalities among them?

Media Release: Call for the Nominations of Suitable Persons to be appointed as Board Members

26 April 2021

The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Ms Barbara Creecy has extended the call for nominations of suitable persons to serve on the boards of the South African Weather Service (SAWS), the South African National Parks (SANParks) and the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) to 10 May 2021.

The call for the appointment of new board members comes as a result of the ending of the three-year board term of the current Boards, and is in terms of the South African Weather Services Act; the National Environment Management: Protected Areas Act, and the National Environment Management Biodiversity Act, respectively.

"Persons to be appointed on the boards will have a duty to ensure that the entities serve the interests of all South Africans, and contribute to the realization of the Constitutional right to an environment that is not harmful to their health and wellbeing," said Minister Creecy.

In this regard, the boards will be charged with the responsibilities of steering the entities to comply with prevailing corporate governance standards, while exercising oversight of the organizations, and making decisions about important issues the organizations face.

Therefore, nominees for each of the entities must have suitable experience or expertise in strategic management and leadership, community development, financial management, audit and risk, corporate governance, water resource management, air quality management, protected areas management, amongst other skills.

Furthermore, a member of the board must be fit and proper to hold office and have the appropriate qualifications. As such, the appointment procedure to be employed will entail vetting of the shortlisted candidates, verification of their qualifications with the South African Qualifications Authority and cabinet consultations.

Details regarding documents required in the submission of the nomination are contained in Government Gazettes no 44490, 44491 and 44492 accessible on the links below:

South African Weather Services Act (Act No. 08 of 2001): Extension of the period for nomination of suitable persons to be appointed as members of the South African Weather Services (SAWS) Board [G 44490Â - GoN 377]
National Environmental Management Protected Areas Act (Act No. 57 of 2003) and National Environmental Management Act 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998): Extension of the period for nomination of suitable persons to be appointed as members of South African National Parks (SANParks) Board [G 44491Â - GoN 378]

Nominations must be submitted within 14 days of the publication of this Notice in the Government Gazette to any of the addresses contained therein.

Three years is not a very long time. I wonder if they can be re-elected :-? It would also be useful to know how many board meetings they are having each year and how much they get paid.
