Pafuri Border Camp (TEBA)

Post by Toko »

Pafuri Border Camp to open for Tourists on 1 November 2015
The Kruger National Park (KNP) will open the latest addition to its accommodation portfolio called the Pafuri Border Camp, to tourists on Sunday, 1 November 2015. Situated in the Pafuri section of the Park (about 70km from Punda Maria Camp Gate), the bush lodge was converted from what used to be called The Employment Bureau of Africa Ltd (TEBA) Tourism Facility.
“We are excited about this new addition as the accommodation facility has a rich history and our tourists will be able to spend more time in the area. With abundance of large trees due to its proximity to Luvuvhu and Limpopo Rivers, the border camp will offer great birding opportunities to guests”, said KNP Managing Executive, Mr Glenn Phillips.
The facility includes three houses (Mockford Residence, Mockford Cottage and Dr Guesthouse) which can accommodate up to 18 people i.e. eight, four and six people respectively. There is a reception, a swimming pool on offer and a museum, which will be operational next year.
“The establishment of this facility had a negligible environmental impact as all the buildings were already there and all that was needed was to re-organise things and equip the units with tourist basic needs”, said Phillips.
For more information about the new Pafuri Border Camp, visit the SANParks Website on http://www.sanparks.org/…/…/pafuri/tour ... bility.php… or contact Punda Maria Camp on Tel: +27 (0)13 735 6873/ Mobile: +27 82 802 0066.

More than 3 years it laid fallow, wasting income if you ask me! 0*\

And turned from oasis to desert! @#$

a political move in many ways..

History here:

viewtopic.php?f=317&t=485

Anyway, this is an absolute gem of a camp and a must-see at least once in a lifetime. It is situated on a small hill near the Pafuri border post, a few km away from Crooks' Corner on the Luvhuvhu River.

One has the unique opportunity to visit Pafuri early in the morning and late in the evening when other tourists have long had to leave, so effectively solitude in paradise.

Birding and scenery are the highlight of the area, along with abnormally large trees of many species along the subtropical perennial river floodplain. Predators are very scarce. This is the traditional headquarters of nyala in Kruger.

What to look for:

Nyala, baboon

Pel's fishing owl

Jackalberry tree

The "now" pic of the house looks less nice, but I presume that the trees and the green parts are still there if you move further back -O-

Probably there is not much difference from then and now apart from details and now it has been refurbished and is most likely more up to date.......I hope.

As RP says it has definitely taken too long 0*\

No pics of the other two houses? I have asked for photos on the Sanparks forum.
