Most plovers and lapwings have a vestigial back toe high up on the foot.

Bustards and korhaans lack the back toe and are proper ground birds.

A sandgrouse has a tiny minute back toe, you can not see it.

My bustards and korhaans have their feet in the grass. At least the ones that I have found up to now ;-)
