The people who took the back dirt roads to bypass this drama eventually got blocked by the locals who put trees in the road and demanded payment before the logs would be removed, so now add extortion to the list. 0*\

The protests are supposedly because of the fact that they haven’t had water for 5 days. We don’t have water on the south coast for at least 2 or 3 days in total a month due to lack of infrastructure maintenance and this has gone on for more than 3 years, so maybe we should try this. O**

Imfolozi/Hluhluwe and the St Lucia area all rely heavily on tourism and these types of protests destroy that industry, the same industry that keeps the area alive and people employed, so………..the protests will eventually cost jobs resulting in a further decline. O/

I doubt it very much. Phalarborwa is quite big and well to do with the mines. So they get their services all right there \O

Somkhele protesters released on bail
They appeared in the KwaMsane Regional Court yesterday (Thursday)

FORTY protesters arrested during violent protests at Somkhele last week have been released on free bail on Tuesday.

This has been confirmed by uMkhanyakude police spokesperson, Capt Jabulani Mdletshe.

They appeared in the KwaMsane Regional Court yesterday (Thursday).

Residents protested about a lack of service delivery in the area, especially the provision of water.

Mdletshe said the R618 needed to be attended to by the Department of Transport to repair damage caused by vandalism during the upheaval. This included replacing road signs.

I think free bail means you don't have to pay, just make sure you pitch up at the next court appearance... :O^
