Beautiful bird shots, Pumbaa!!

What an array, Pumbaa!
The one darter seems to have a fish in the throat!
Endless action, plus what looks like a big-tusked ellie!

Re: A cat or a lifer a day keep the doctor away
A bushbuck lady crossed the road
and had been watched by a couple of astonished vervets who were so cute.
On the high water bridge a couple of cars had piled up and whilst approaching them – meanwhile they were standing in front of the turn off into the S30 which unfortunately was also closed – we soon discovered another male leopard standing right onto the S30 behind the barrier. Unfortunately Timon had wrong settings in the camera so unfortunately we got only a couple of blurred shots
from the beauty but a leopard is a leopard.
For sure we stayed a bit longer and hoped same might show up again but this was not the case and so we left but had more bad luck as only when we wanted to turn into the H12 we noted that same was closed because the Sand River causeway was still flooded so we had to turn around and drove the same way we just came. For sure we stopped again at the spot where we saw the leopard but same kept still hidden so we carried on and only stopped for a couple of white headed vultures
and for a family of warthogs until we reached the camp.
After the previous evenings we spent with our own braai we were in the mood to visit the restaurant tonight and so we gave the Cattle Baron another try. Same was quite full and the service and food were excellent and it was more than enough and so two very happy chaps fell into the bed after we returned to our bungalow.

Roads we paid a visit: H11 – S1 – S65 – H1-1 – S66 – H1-1 – H4-1 – S30 – H12 – H2-1 – H11 – S42 – H11 – H11 – H4-1 – H12 – H2-1 – H1-1
Obviously the rainy days were over as the day started bright and it looked as if it will become a sunny day. For sure we befell ourselves into the direction of our beloved S65 but it was extreme quiet again that early morning and so we only stopped for a steppe buzzard in a tree
before we already could turn into the S65 which luckily was still open but what to say same was quiet as well. We then stopped and watched two impala males who were constantly looking into one direction and on top started to snuffle so we looked also into the direction and finally discovered the culprit – another male leopard -
unfortunately this was the only shot we got from same as he soon was no longer to be seen. Bad luck again with the spotted ones. Not far we detected a knob-billed duck on a dead tree at least he was willing to pose nicely for us.

Re: A cat or a lifer a day keep the doctor away
But it was not our morning as it was unbelievable quiet along that road and as we had not driven yet on the new road in which you can turn right we tried this one without knowing where same was leading. At least here the sun came up and a couple of giraffes were around as well as two elephant bulls under a marula tree
and for sure the fruits had been shovelled into their mouths like mad and we never will get tired in watching them and hear their satisfying snuffle.
It was a lovely drive on that new road which then ended on the H1-1 and right there at the crossing a beautiful pale chanting goshawk was sitting in a bush
indeed a raptor we do not see that often in Kruger
and for sure never saw one that close and needless to say that Timon took shot after shot.
At least same sat long enough and also an OSV stopped and the passengers were thrilled by that raptor who then after a while flew away. As we omitted Transport dam yesterday for sure a visit there was a must today and for sure we stopped first at the tree in which we last year saw a leopard but same was certainly empty hence we had time to admire the place itself.
Same is always worth a stop and so it was today as it is always so peaceful there and despite the heavy rain we even saw the dam fuller.
We started to look around and saw in the right second a fish eagle taking off,
discovered one of the ever present black smith plovers on one of the huge rocks
and admired a waterbuck mom and her little one
whilst some other ladies still had a good night’s rest.
to be continued………
