Hi there
As you know Bookworm and I will be visiting KNP from 16 to 24 August
I plan to leave Boksburg at 4 am on Saturday 16 August and if all goes well I will pick up Bookworm in Bela Bela at 7 am .....but with the wind blowing as it was for the last few days it might take a bit longer .We should be in Phalaborwa by 13:00 or so....again if the wind behaves
We plan to go for a drive later and to check out Sable hide
Anyone interested in joining us for a braai on the Saturday or Sunday afternoon/evening are very welcome
We will be staying at Phalaborwa Safari Park on 16 and 17 August, and then from 18 to 24 August we will be staying at Maroela.
This will be a different kind of trip as Bookworm will practise her site guide knowledge on me ..........only joking she is doing very well with her studies and she can't wait to test what she has learned. I was told that after this trip I will know a lot more about trees and animals......EISH
We hope to have a great trip with lots of animals, birds, goggas and reptiles, no real wish list but Lions, Leopards, Wilddogs, Cheethas,Rhinos some rare antilopes, AWC, Caracal and so on will be nice

Jip..168 kms that's why we will enter at 6, luckily we will be staying only 100m from the gateRichprins wrote:Nice stuff, Harry!
Remember, it's a long way from Phala to Maroela inside the Park!
We've got the whole day to get to Maroela, so I'll just cruze slowly
Does anyone know if sites are pre-alocated or is it first come first served

Hi everyone we're back and I'll start as soon as I've sorted the photos
We saw the Big 5 but had some other great sights and some firsts
Just 1 comment.......it sucks to have to leave Kruger .........It sucked so much I booked for June 2015 when I got home

So let's get this TT roling.......
16 August - Day 1:
I left at 03:46 and arrived in Bela Bela at 06:50, picked up Bookworm and then we headed for Phalaborwa(wind was very bad and was hitting us head on, feul consumption went to 14.6l/100km, usually when towing it's round about 12.3 l/100km ) we arrived at Phalaborwa Safari Park at 10:20.After booking in and setting up camp we decided to go for a drive in the Park. First we had to renew our Wildcards, that went fast and without drama and we where in Kruger about 20 mins later
We drove to Sable hide and had some animals on the way, then we went halfway to Letaba........
Ellie trying to hide from us:
Toko:
Giraffe:
Roadblock:
This eagle, not happy with the wind...Martial eagle :
We where very tired and decided to go back to camp where we had a nap from 14:00 to 16:30
We had a lovely braai and sat around the fire and father and daughter caught up on lost time
Day 2 to follow shortly......

Nice one Harrys. Great first day in the park for you and Bookworm.
Martial Eagle numbers are plummeting in the park at present, so it was great that you got to see one.
(We only saw 2 the whole trip).
