Day 2 - 17 August:
We where at the gate at 06:10 and entered a little later, we decided to take the gravel road to Letaba and the gravel road to Olifants and then back on the tar.
First up - Double-Banded Sandgrouse:
This little guy was almost flattened by a very inpatient mampara:
Giraffe....one thing we realised was that there are no shortage of Geraffes in the park
Another roadblock..just BIGGER
Then our first Lions of the trip and there where 3 cubs, the lady who spotted them told us that just 30 mins earlier they where all in the road playing and as you'll see that is how our Lion sightings went... we missed the best parts
This Ellie was doing funny movements with it's backside and hind legs and offcourse Bookworm nearly fell out of the car laughing
Huge Crocodile
We had breakfast at Letaba at Mugg and Bean and must say the best I've had in Kruger, the service was excellent and the food was very tasty....well done SANparks with this decision to bring in these guys
More to follow, just have to ID a birdie ........

Re: Exploring Maroela and surrounds..............
Maroela is a great little camp with the Orpen cam about 1km away lots of animals come past the camp, we had Buffaloes grazing next to the fence, Ellies trumpettering and breaking trees a few meters from the fence, Lions roaring not far away and Hayenas patrolling the fenceSeiont wrote: Thanks for this harrys. I'm feeling the urge and trying to find the time and money to take a quick dash down to SA and Kruger before the end of the year. One option is to travel with my campsite in a case and stop in Maroela for five days or so. I'm very interested in this TT as a result. Looking forward to more.
When we where there every night was quiet inside the camp and lots of life outside, everyone respected each other. There is a 2 fridges to put your meat in if you are camping in a tent, and there is the communial kitchen(with hot water for coffee/tea) where you can prepare your meal and wash the dishes
I've put some photos here: Camps of Kruger

hiya harrys.....
great to catch up here....
that rear-end shot of the ellie reminds me of richprins' selfie at mopani
..... correct with the emerald-spotted wood-dove (old name was green-spotted dove)
..
your wader could well be a ruff or even a wood sandpiper (seems it might have a bit of an eye-stripe)..
both are migrants that start arriving in august.......
never seen so many geese together ....
great shot of the "brownie" ................
the future is not what it used to be
