Aat&Elly-Story 11 - Picasso & Friends (AWD)

Post by aat »

Hi all, thanks for all comments. Just another story prepared and posted... enjoy

*** Travel Tales ***
Trip to Kruger NP 2015 (October – November) New series of Stories

11 – Picasso & Friends the Painters of Kruger…

Hi all,
Time for another story. This time it’s about the Painted Dogs. Years ago I wrote some stories about them and for fun I used some names of famous painters for them. So welcome to meet Picasso and friends again.
For us it’s a kind of a tradition to see the Painted Dogs and every trip we are saying to each other… sometime it will end and we don’t see them.
This trip 3 times.

Let’s start with a very very early encounter 05:15 AM as appetizer. We just left camp and took one of the roads and after about 15 minutes …..

-

The dogs just woke up I guess and some stretching, socializing. I was not really awake and was just changing the exposure to 12000 to make it possible to get anything on the photos.

-

-

And just before they all run into the bush

-

-

Before we really realized it they were gone…. Estimating the packsize between 20 and 30

The best encounter with the Painted Dogs was during the day, between Satara and Orpen.
Again a large pack. We stayed a few hours with them because they were active and very close to us and it’s just fascinating to watch their behaviour. I made about 200 pictures so I made a small selection to share with you.

and

This one was just asking for a photo… so why not

-
Image
-

Laying down, standing up, go to another family member to socialize…busy busy all the time
And taking the opportunity to make a close-up.

-

Training yourself for hunting mode

-

-

Looking around , it was a combination of younger ones and adults.
I guess several adults were hunting and this part of the pack was waiting for their return

-
Image
-

As said, they were everywhere…so pending to the other side of the road, just a few meters away. Chewing on a branch

-
Image
-

and

-
Image
-

Then…suddenly activity… many were standing up and running

-
Image
-

As I thought …some other pack-members returned from a mission

-
Image
-

Really beautiful to see them running and playing… much different then looking at them laying down in the grass…

-

and

-
Image
-

Last shot of them…

It was a great sighting again

We hope you enjoyed this story and more to come

It is always fascinating to spot wild dogs either on only a short sighting or during a longer stay - You really got many amazing shots, Aat \O :-0
