Hi all,
Almost a week at home after a 3 weeks trip to Kruger.
Our start: Flying from Amsterdam to J'Burg , staying one night at 34 meters (as they say) in a hotel and next day we were flying to Phalaborwa. AVIS told us our car was not there and if we had any objection to get a free upgrade to a Toyota Fortuner. We looked at the car and said... No Objection .
Next stop was a supermarket and after loading all we needed we went to the Gate.... Hello Kruger here we are
Plan: First Letaba, then Shingwedzi, followed by (my beloved) Mopani (you will find out why.... and our last 4 nights would be in Letaba again.
Our last trip in 2015 was really great but we set expectations not to high , goal was to relax after a long period of health troubles and hoping to find some Tuskers.
About Kruger... it was very dry as we all knew and know... funny thing was , everywhere we went we had some rain. Drive from Letaba to Satara and yes , some rain, staying in Letaba and yes thunderstorm and rain, drive to Babalala and yes , rain.... our last day in Letaba ...lots of rain ... so locals asked me to stay as Rainman....
Sightings ? We had some we used the word Mega... several times. Tuskers ? Yes , at least 5 (also presented on the forum Mammals / Tuskers...
We were asking ourselves: Will we see any lions in the north ? How about the antelopes like Roan, Eland and Sable ?
From Letaba we liked to see the "new" Tsjokwane.... our opinion? What a mess... what a deception...
Remarkable: As said it was dry, but Pioneer dam and Stapelkop (near Mopani) were loaded with water when we were there. Most rivers were tiny little streams everywhere.
Are you ready for some tales / stories / experiences ?
