The grey-headed sparrows are having a great time
The female waterbucks are soooo pretty ....and curious and do not run away like the kudus do
More paradise whydahs
Luckily it stopped raining

Mostly we let them come to us whilst at another sighting when we approch them they do also fly away but do land a bit further down so we keep on trying and finally we at least got a couple of shots
Finally we could capture one and indeed a dry braai is far better then a wet one
The birds were around numerously because the park was very wet - I still remember last year when it was far dryer the birds indeed only occured sporadically

I suppose they took a bath in an elephant's Footprint which becaomes a puddle
We were so happy that so many of them could be captured
Totally right kudu females are far more shy compared to the waterbuck ladies who were not willing to clear the road

Sunday, 17. February 2019 - Satara
Explored roads: H1-4 – S100 – S41 – S100 – H1-4 – S127 – S39 – H7 – S12 – S40 – H1-4 – H1-3 – Nkaya Pan – H1-4
During the night I woke up by a strange noise and also needed the bathroom and whilst entering same I was shocked as it was ice-cold in same – never thought it can get such cold during summer in the park - and the strange noise turned out to be the howling wind of a storm and the noise of torrential rain – Really a fat chance for the coming day!
In the early morning it was at least dry but it still was very windy so we really had not that great expectations in finding open roads or even in spotting any animals but for sure we tried and to our luck the S100 was open so we turned into same and we came across a Wahlberg eagle
and noticed that the N’wanetsi looked even fuller than the previous day
somehow we obviously were the only car that travelled that road as same was dead quiet car- and animalwise but we spotted a cinnamon breasted bunting
and another or maybe the same paradise whydah we also saw the previous day.
At some parts along that road close to the small river there are always so beautiful trees which simply had to be captured
even a grey heron was on the look out
and once again Mr. paradise whydah showed up in fact during the previous years we often spotted that bird species nearly at the same spot.
One of the fluffy waterbuck youngsters was willing to pose
and was simply too cute for words
on top masses of impalas could be seen
especially with all the puddles between their legs.

For sure the wildebeests
as well as the zebras occurred also in masses
along that road
out of which the youngsters were extreme hungry and we stayed quite a long time with them and enjoyed to watch them.
Nothing more could be discovered and finally we stood in front of Gudzani dam again and I was a bit confused about the loud noise of flowing water
until we noticed that the dam was that morning more than full
and must say that we never saw the dam that full which was incredibly amazing.

Again babies all over, Pumbaa!
And lush scenery and full dam!
Yes, it is amazing how an overnight storm can fill things up!

Re: From Floods and Surprises in River beds
I've only seen one Paradise Whydah in Kruger and it was also on the S100. Lovely to see so much water.
