Enjoying The Kruger Without Staying In The Park

Post by Lisbeth »

There are several advantages by staying outside the Park, especially if for a rather long period and only one downside.

The advantages:
Cheaper
Staying in a more comfortable place with nothing missing and lots of space
Internet access (wifi)
Supermarket on the way to the park
Shops if you need something
Etc.

Downside:
Limited roads that you can drive.

The trip went like expected: Long and tiring with little to no sleep, but never mind.

Car rental quick (the advantage of a small airport) and I was presented with a new VW Polo with a great air condition system.

The “Spar” was right there a few hundred meters from the airport, but I was too tired to think of stopping. Having a certain experience in this kind of trip I had brought coffee, sugar, milk and croissant and even something to eat the next day from home and I had kept a bottle of water that I had got on the plane.

My home for the next month was a cottage at the “Hans Merensky Estate”

In order to get to the cottage I had to pass two security checks, the first mostly for the Hotel and Golf access and the second for the cottages. At the second one, I filled in a form with the usual information and got a yellow slip with name, dates and name and address of the cottage. I found the place easily enough.

Last obstacle: security number for the small key storage box and finally inside, quickly find the alarm and type in the security number. The owner had explained everything perfectly in an e-mail and even explained the road from the airport, where the “Spar” was and the rest of the itinerary in a detailed and clear way.

Next was switch on the air condition which worked beautifully. Two of them in a very big room with a kitchen at one end, an enormous table and at the other end a comfortable living area with view on a small pool and behind it the golf course.
I was happy to have arrived without trouble and that the place looked fine.

The next day must have been passed unpacking and relaxing because I only have some pics from the what was to be "the usual evening visitors" even if they were never quite the same ;-)

Being alone, it was rather expensive, but not for what the place offered. R950 per night (discounted prize because I stayed for a month). Included cleaning twice a week.

Is the 950 after discount? And normally for two?
