 it was very busy down South .
Klipspringer wrote: Sat Apr 20, 2019 8:31 pm Nice drive, and lucky with the congestion lol as you are saying some are oft "sightings" where really nothing is to see.
Which bird hide is this?
\O we normally avoid the traffic jams we only got involved in this one as it was the only way to get to Lower Sabie

 it was \O
Richprins wrote: Sun Apr 21, 2019 7:51 am Nice sightings and pics, Rog! So nice to see lions actually moving during the day! lol
My favourite is the heron pic...interesting angle! [O]
Yes we normally only see flat lions in the day and then don't stay long at those sighting .

On the Lower Sabie bridge we found some Hippo's wallowing :

We carried onto Lower Sabie and had breakfast in the day visitors area . Sorry R.P no food picks

After breakfast we stopped in at Sunset dam :

There was very little moving even in the dam was quiet :

Back on the bridge one of the resident giant Kingfishers was waiting patiently :

A crock was warming up on the sand bank

Image

We headed back down towards Crocodile bridge and took the S130 loop :

This young Kudu bull was trying to hide from us .Not sure why it was lying down during the day :
Image

We passed some Warthogs and Zebras at the water hole and took the obligatory picture of "the tree" :
Image

This fellow had finished his mud wallow :

Scratched on a tree

and carried on his way across the road

Your bird is a pied not giant kingfisher ;-)

Lovely pics of the rhino.

You are right, strange to see a kudu lying down and right next to an impala :-?

I also like the hippo pic \O

There were lots of Marabou storks at Sunset Dam ;-)

Ja, animals can be a bit listless if it is overcast, especially when there is a breeze?

What was the day-visitors at LS like? Toilets etc?

Day visitors at LS was ok -very quiet while we were there but it was a little overgrown when we were there . we have found the toilets at LS not all too great of late .I think its a case of too many users .

Further along we found a lone Elli
Image

We stopped at Gezantombi Dam there was not much water -a small puddle .Some Saddle-bills were about and a large herd of Impalas with plenty of youngsters :

Image

Suddenly the youngsters all started running ....what was happening then we realized that it was still school time and the older Impalas were teaching the youngsters how to run and jump .We spent a while just watching their PE classes lol

Image

Image

Image

The last animals we saw before checking out the gate were these Gnu's

Image

And then as we drove down the road approaching the Stop street by the bridge ..... spots in the bushes oh look there is a cheetah O**
Image

Image

A bit hard to get a decent picture but there was soon there a traffic jam in and out the park ....we decide to make our way back to Marloth O**

In Marloth we stopped in at the local communal lake next door to the house and noticed the active log floating around ...Image

The local Hornbill was waiting for us to put out some fruit Image

Image

The rugrats played with some fire color packets that night
