Wildearth has now added another game reserve to their daily live safaris: Ngala Private Game Reserve.
This reserve is the core area where the famous Birmingham lion pride with their white cubs hang out. I think there are currently two white ones in the pride.

This reserve has a quite interesting background as it is sort of contractual park to the Kruger National Park and involves a private lodge operator, WWF SA as landowner and SANParks as management authority.
Ngala Private Game Reserve was born in 1992 out of a unique three-way partnership between &BEYOND, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) SA and the South African National Parks Trust (SANParks Trust).

In 1939, the Hoheisen family acquired land on the western border of the Kruger National Park in an area that was later established as the Timbavati Game Reserve. By 1995, the Timbavati Game Reserve covered some 62 000 hectares (153 205 acres), divided between 26 landowners. Hans Hoheisen donated his property, Ngala, to the WWF-SA in 1992, when tourism operations were leased out to &BEYOND.

In terms of the agreement, &BEYOND now leases the Ngala land from WWF SA and, in return, we pay a portion of our turnover to the SANParks Trust. This money has been used to expand some of South Africa’s smaller national parks in areas with exceptional biodiversity. The monies paid by &BEYOND have enabled SANParks to establish the West Coast National Park, a high biodiversity region of international importance.

The then CEO of National Parks and CEO of Conservation Corporation, Dave Varty, concluded a mutually beneficial deal resulting in Ngala becoming the first private game reserve to be incorporated into the world-famous Kruger National Park, a model that paved the way for further private concessions within the Park.

@SANParksKNP
SANParks establishments are under lockdown as announced by Minister Creecy. There is no truth in the posts that Kruger Park are doing live game drives on YouTube. These posts are a marketing ploy using Kruger National Park, which is unfortunate.

Ngala belongs to the KNP, it's the same concession outside Orpen gate where the wildlife college is :O^

Ngala is "privately" owned by the South Africa National Parks Trust, and the land is managed by SANParks as part of Kruger National Park (KNP). The land was donated to the SANParks Trust, via the Worldwide Fund for Nature. This land was by proclamation included to the KNP.

Traversing fees and a percentage of profits from both andBeyond Ngala Safari Lodge and andBeyond Ngala Tented Camp, go to the SANPT.

Ja, as I understand it SANParks have a big say in conservation matters on land open to greater Kruger. Not tourism profit matters though? -O-

They have any say, it's proclaimed as part of KNP and the "rent" goes to the trust wich serves extending SANPark's land.

BTW: The white lions starred on yesterday's life safari!
