January 2020

My friend Ash, who is out from the UK, suggested that the two of us take a day trip to Pilanesberg yesterday, which I eagerly agreed to. I picked her up at 4.30am and we were at Manyane Gate by 6.30. Not even a minute after entering the park we came across three precious ones!! They were in thick bush at first and difficult to photograph, but two of them eventually crossed the road and moved into shorter grass.

Ash was very excited. Her aunt had been in the park two days before and their only noteworthy sightings were one elephant and giraffe. Her aim was to see 3 of the Big 5, so we'd got the first one under our belt. :-0

A Black-chested Snake-eagle.

A Sabota Lark, I think. :-?

We made a stop at Ratlhogo Hide but it was also quiet, except for the Village Weavers and Lesser-striped Swallows....
