I think at that stage it was classed as 'dormant' but now 'extinct' \O

I think it's only about a 600m climb up, but it was really steep to get up onto the sides

After our volcano sleepover we had another big drive ahead of us to get up to the dunes at Sossusvlei. The scenery along the way was fantastic ^Q^ ^Q^

We stopped for lunch along the way and found a well camouflaged grasshopper

Richard was busy examining a piece of old pipe which had a bit of "string" hanging out the end... on pulling the "string" it duly wrapped itself around his hand which provided quite a fright =O: =O:

It turned out to be some kind of small sand snake O:V

Our camp was a nice spot... can't remember the name of the place now.

It had a very fat resident meerkat lol

How cool is this little snake ^Q^ ^Q^ ^Q^
Dwarf beaked snake Dipsina multimaculata
A small snake with a distinctive hooked snout. The colour is extremely variable ranging from sandy grey to red with a series of broad spots. There is also a distinctive V-shaped marking on the back of the head.
These snakes are active during the day when they hunt small lizards. When threatened the dwarf beaked snake will hiss loudly and strike out repeatedly mimicking the venomous horned adder.
They are considered to be mildly venomous, however the venom as no effect on man.
