Rondebult is a great place for bird variety, I took a count after the following trip and got to 25 species - I'm sure there were one or two that I missed!Pumbaa wrote:Although on the not so good visits there is lots to see and enjoy, BluTuna

17 May 2015.
It was a long summer and the weather was still quite balmy for the time of year.
Some Coots had tiny chicks.
And other Coots were being nutty.
Sacred Ibis are always good for a flying shot.
Greyheaded Gulls were starting to get into breeding plumage.
One of the captive Peacocks was displaying.
Spurwings are common at Rondebult.
Grey Herons are also fairly common.

Then there was the not-so-common.
Greater Flamingo. These are regulars but I don't see them on every visit.
Pied Avocet. Also an irregular sighting.
Blackwinged Stilts. Yet another not-so-common sighting.
African Shelducks. A first for me at Rondebult.
And another first at Rondebult, African Spoonbills.

You are getting some excellent photos of birds in flight
The chick is pretty yellow-feathered, have never seen that before or did not pay attention - interesting

Re: Rondebult Bird sanctuary
Thanks again everyone.
Rondebult is an excellent venue for bird species, I have counted 25 on a couple of occasions. A big lens is a definite advantage as the birds are a bit further away that at some sanctuaries such as Austin Roberts.
The hides have security gates on them (which can be locked once you are inside) and keys are obtained from the security guard at the gate.
