Media Release-KZN Drought Effects on Parks

Post by RogerFraser »

Media Release
Following significantly lower than average rainfall, most of KwaZuluNatal is currently in the grips of an ongoing drought. Recently this situation has been made worse by sustained high temperatures and strong wind, these conditions have been particularly severe in the Zululand region. “Ezemvelo is concerned about the effect the drought is having on our protected areas and the impact this has on the fauna and flora within these areas” said Dr David Mabunda, Acting CEO of EKZNW. “It goes without saying that our primary concern must be water to support the wildlife in the Parks so we appeal to the public to understand that there are sever limits on the water available to support our tourism operations. We are particularly concerned that going into the peak holiday season that unless we experience good rainfall in the immediate future, it may be necessary to suspend tourism operations at some of our resorts. We will keep the public informed of any developments that take place in this regard. We appreciate the publics ongoing understanding and support during this testing time.”

Doesn't make sense...how can megalitres of game water be compared to kilolitres of tourist usage?

Just say the camps are running dry, due to lack of whatever...don't bring the animals into it? -O-
