Dear Interested and Affected Party

RE: PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT OF THE PHALABORWA WILDLIFE ACTIVITY HUB, KRUGER NATIONAL PARK, LIMPOPO PROVINCE

Enviroworks has been appointed by SANParks to conduct the Basic Assessment Process for the proposed development of the Phalaborwa Wildlife Activity Hub, Kruger National Park, Limpopo Province. In accordance with Government Notice Regulation No. 326 of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998)(NEMA) EIA Regulations of 7 April 2017, Enviroworks is conducting a Public Participation Process to engage Stakeholders and Interested and Affected Parties on this matter.

As part of the Public Participation Process, Enviroworks has identified you as an interested and affected party (I&AP) as a likely participant in this process and would like to invite you to comment hereto. This would ensure that you remain cognizant of all procedural-related milestones, reports and have the opportunity to comment on the proposed project.

For your attention please find attached the Draft Basic Assessment Report, which have been amended to include the following:

1. Geo-Hydrological Impact Assessment to assess and identify the impact of the proposed development on the surface hydrology of the area;

2. A Traffic Impact Assessment to assess the occurrence of congestion at the Phalaborwa Gate and to determine whether proposed number of parking bays are sufficient; and,

3. A Plant Rescue and Protection Plan which allows for the maximum transplant of conservation important species.

Please find a link below to the Enviroworks website where the Draft Basic Assessment Report (attached as well) can be downloaded (The document has been uploaded already). Should you wish to receive a soft copy of the report please feel free to contact me and I will forward it onto you. Furthermore, if you know of any other individuals or organisations that should be informed on this process, please provide their contact information. The comment period will be open from Monday 6 August 2018 until Wednesday 5 September 2018.

Dear Interested and Affected Party

RE: NOTIFICATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL AUTHORISATION: PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT OF THE PHALABORWA WILDLIFE ACTIVITY HUB AND ASSOCIATED INFRASTRUCTURE, KRUGER NATIONAL PARK, LIMPOPO PROVINCE.

You are hereby informed that the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) granted Environmental Authorisation on 11 March 2019 for the above mentioned project, in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No.107 of 1998) and the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2017.

A copy of the EA may also be downloaded from the website www.enviroworks.co.za/projectdownloads.php (EA - Phalaborwa WAH: will be available from 14:00), or alternatively contact Enviroworks at the details in the email signature below.

Please see attached the letter explaining the Appeals Procedure, the Appeal Process will be open from 20 March 2019 to 10 April 2019.

Please note the following changes were made to the Final Basic Assessment Report in order to address Departmental and Interested and Affected Party concern:

1. The hot air balloon has been removed;

2. Bird Viewing Phase 2 has been removed due to it not being situated in an area that will attract any birds;

3. The border fence has been moved to the inside of the small stream as illustrated by Points D, E, F, G in the attached map;

4. A small swimming pool has been added to cool down area Phase 2 with a diameter of fourteen meters (14 m);

5. The tent camp has been formalised with seven (7) units decreasing the footprint;

6. Bird viewing Phase 1 was moved closer to the river and will be placed on stilts in order to give better viewing;

7. A more circular route was implemented for the golf carts in order to better the wilderness experience; and,

8. Twenty (20) parking bays were added to the entrance gate to ensure adequate capacity is available for future purposes.

I would like to thank you for your participation and inputs during the Environmental Process, it is highly appreciated.

Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me on any of the details below.

Kind Regards / Vriendelike Groete
