Great photo's so far
Hi PRWIN, no we only heard about it this last trip
We are back in Sept/Oct so will be watching it carefully

Thanks everyone for all your input \O

A bok and a bird

There is one given in the Kgalagadi, and that is that there is no given
After our exciting day, the previous day, we really didn’t know what the Kgalagadi would dish us up today.
We woke, once again to the far off sound of lions roaring.

We decided, being creatures of habit to go north once again.

Well we saw nothing, and by nothing I mean nothing.

Eventually after driving up as far as Melkvlei, we turned and returned to Kij Kij
Still nothing

The dune road was a bit more productive.

A far away flat lion at Tierkop spiked our interest for a while, but eventually this Kalahari Chicken stole the show

WE drove around to Twee Rivieren and all was quiet

This springbok was being watched by a falcon at a waterhole

Otherwise, the day was quiet, even our evening drive was totally unproductive. That is what you come to expect in the Kgalagadi
The sunset can always be relied upon.

Monday 7 January, our last full day in the park

As usual we started our day by heading up to Kij Kij hoping to catch the early sightings before all the Twee Rivieren cars caught up with us.
Today we were rewarded with this stunning sighting of a Brown Hyena at the Kij Kij waterhole

We had really been lucky this trip with more brown hyena sightings than ever before

The hyena eventually moved off, which with the ablutions at Melkvlei calling we decided to do the same

While we were at the picnic site, we were alerted to a very flat lion, far up on the dunes above the picnic area. It was so far away that even looking at it with our binoculars was a challenge, so after doing the loop around Melkvlei we turned and set off for Twee Rivieren

As we trundled down south, we came upon this road block just before Leeudril

I wonder how many of the chicks would make it to maturity, hopefully most of them as they are quite big already.

We met up with the Danish family in Twee Rivieren who were asking where in the camp they could refill their gas bottle.
Only in Askam was the reply, and they were about to leave the park to head down to get the bottle filled.
Today, being our last day and knowing that I still had a full bottle back at camp, I offered to swop our full bottle for their empty one to save them the trip

After purchasing what we needed, we returned to Rooiputs to start packing up some of the stuff around the camp in preparation for tomorrow’s departure

That evening we took a drive up to Kij Kij and back.
All was quiet bar some of the usual suspects

Our last sunset of the trip did not disappoint.

A final gift from the Kgalagadi

The previous day when we were swopping gas bottles with our Danish friends; they mentioned that they had not seen any brown hyenas so far this trip.
No problem, follow us, we’ve seen loads and quite a few at Kij Kij, and we are taking a quick drive up there in the morning before we leave for home
So the next morning we set off to see if we would be lucky

Arriving at the waterhole at about 6:45, we found no brownies, but these two cheetah instead

We watched them until they moved off, where after we needed to return to Rooiputs to finish packing, hitch the trailer and set off on the 12 hour drive back to Cape Town

Leaving the park is always sad, but we knew that we would be back

Thanks everyone for following our travel through the majestic Kgalagadi, your comments and support are always really appreciated

O0 O0

See you again in Sept 2019
