Dear SANParks,
I see SANParks have cancelled the tender for the Public Private Partnership for the running of the Skukuza Safari Lodge. I also see SANParks is advertising for the below positions for the lodge:
General Manager
Restaurant Supervisor.
Assistant Food and Beverage Manager.
The last figure I remember seeing for the cost to build the lodge was R250 million.
Can you please share with us the final cost for the project.
New projections for occupancy seeing that we are running late
Projected break even time and payback period.
Thank You.

Dear Mohammed, apart from directing you to the correct procedures for submitting queries such as yours, we have sourced a response to your questions:
1. Can you please share with us the final cost for the project.
The cost has not escalated.
2. New projections for occupancy seeing that we are running late
The situation was not anticipated and SANParks is working full steam ahead for the facility to be operational by the festive Season.
3. Projected break even time and payback period.
The projected break even time is estimated at 10 years at the most and remember SANParks used its own funds and did not borrow from anyone. The organisation funds 85 to 87% of its operating budget from tourism activities and does not rely much on the fiscus. The assistance from National treasury has been necessitated by the escalating anti-poaching operations.

wondering what the qualifications are for the food and beverage manager ...plenty of experiance sampling those
Pretty sure the costs have escalated you cannot have anything standing unused for long periods without the extra costs getting run up .

SANParks did not pay a cent! What a lie!
The full development cost of the Conference Lodge (Lodge, bulk services and staff housing) amounting to R269,5 Million, is funded from the Infrastructure Development Grant.

Of course I cannot compare building costs in SA and in Switzerland, but the amount seems too small to me especially with costs of furbishing and various installations that are needed to run a hotel of that size

Re: Skukuza Hotel Progress (Kruger National Park)
Most infrastructure development in SANParks is paid for with taxpayer money from the DBSA:
Last year, (2018) the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism awarded R396 million (€24 million) in funding to SANParks for infrastructure development over the next three years. SANParks allocated R195 million (€11 million) to the Kruger National Park, for tourist facilities student, contractors' and staff accommodation; conference and day visitors' facilities; entrance gates; roads; and smaller upgrades.

This is how DBSA distributes our money...

SANParks falsely claim that they have to finance this THEMSELVES through tourist money, which is a way of justifying the horrific commercialisation and wild price increases.

This place will probably never break even, never mind turn a profit, and I repeat that the reason for its inception was for the ANC to hold free gatherings for their cadres there, end of story.
