Somehow the lion magnets worked during the first day of our trip very well

Yes, coming in January/February we probably lose a lot of sightings because of the tall grass

Nevertheless I am always satisfied with what we do discover also when the grass is high

We also do love that area also very much and although the grass is high we do love the open areas there

Maybe during one of our next trips we can stay there again although must say No. 3 was also not that bad

Some were daydreaming



whilst other started to groom



and whilst we spotted only yesterday males this was a group of females at least the ones we discovered or better to saw the ones who were willing to show up.



Meanwhile the sun got higher and higher and the light got better and better and the lioness started to yawn



and finally also a third head could be seen. We did not stay that long with them as the grass was simply to high although they were quite close but overall we were happy that we in the end found them.



A yellow throated longclaw posed so nicely on a small mound with a full bill – Also a bird we did not see that often



but one of the birds who was plentiful this year was the lilac breasted roller



soon followed by another one.

Another lovely bird sighting was then a couple of common waxbills in the morning sun



but somehow they did not stay that long but long enough for a couple of shots.



Unfortunately besides masses of lilac breasted rollers and zorros the road was extreme quiet and close to the turn of to the previous Nhlanganzwani dam masses of red billed queleas had a pity with us and showed up and



also this year this bird species could be seen in masses throughout the whole park which is always wonderful especially with the green background



Whilst travelling along the S107 we stopped for elephant bulls,



finally captured one of the many zorro birds,



gave right of way to this grey giant,

photographed a glossy starling and



finally met an elephant bull with a set of quite impressive tusks





it is always wonderful when one met such awesome tuskers especially with such decoration on the back.



A stop at the previous dam is always a must as the S107 is on top not a bad road and we always enjoy the view and the silence there. Back on the S28 we discovered a dead tree with a pair of bateleurs posing nicely for us in the lovely sunlight.





One after the other spread their wings obviously to dry same



and same looked quite impressive and simply beautiful.





This was the tree in which they rested and from time to time one of them flew to another tree on the other side of the road in which they might were busy in building or even had a nest.



Here is one of the on the way back after same inspected the other tree



and it was simply amazing to met such a wonderful couple of one of my favourite birds



in the open and to pose so impressively. Sorry for the masses of shots but again I could not choose a favourite……
