Thanks once again for the comments and thank you Klippies for the Bat ID. I'm sure it is the Egyptian Slit-faced Bat, as you said.
Time for some pics taken this weekend on a relatively quiet Grietjie.
First batch, birds...
On Friday afternoon I took a walk down to the river again. When I got there I noticed this Giant Kingfisher on a wire, that crosses the river, with the almost full moon well above the horizon. I shifted into a position to get the moon behind the bird, but with the long lens I couldn't get both in focus...
The Kingfisher then took caught me by surprise, it dived down from the wire, into the river and emerged with a fish in it's beak. I managed to get a shot of it flying with it's catch, but unfortunately not in sharp focus...
On Saturday morning there was an abundance of bird life around the house, almost like a spring day. Here is a White-browed Scrub Robin...
My favourite for the day, a Jameson's Firefinch...
Up next, strange behaviour...

Re: Grietjie Private Reserve
This weekend I also witnessed some strange behaviour.
How about this for a weird combination of buddies...
This morning, a Steenbok and Steenbokkie. He was very keen, but typical female, she wanted to know nothing about his advances...
He then gave up trying and resorted to feeding instead...
Lastly, a predatory Giraffe. He was chasing Impala for about half an hour, unfortunately he was outwitted on every attempt...
Until next time, from the banks of the Olifants...

Grand photo of the weird buddies
God put me on earth to accomplish a certain amount of things. Right now I'm so far behind that I'll never die.
