Media Release: SANParks Celebrates Mandela Day Feeding the Homeless

South African National Parks (SANParks) is celebrating the birthday of former South African president, Nelson Mandela on 19 July 2019 by hosting a soup kitchen at SunnyPark Mall in Pretoria.
Madiba, as he was affectionately known, would have turned 101 years old today and SANParks employees embraced the opportunity to participate in the 67 Minutes by contributing to society.
According to the SANParks General Manager: Media, PR & Stakeholder Relations, Reynold Thakhuli “SANParks head office, Groenkloof National Park in partnership with SunnyPark Mall celebrated Nelson Mandela Day and participated in the 67 Minutes Campaign by creating a Soup Kitchen at Sunny Park Mall entrance, Pretoria. We need to take care of our most vulnerable citizens which are the homeless.”
Thakhuli said that Mandela’s birthday celebration is the special one and it means something to the people of the world, therefore his legacy will forever be celebrated. ‘’Indeed he is gone but his spirit and soul are still with us and we need to do our bit in commemoration of it” added Thakhuli.
In conclusion, Thakhuli said the former apartheid struggle icon must be celebrated and remembered as his tireless commitment to improving the lives of the most vulnerable is indisputable. SANParks in line with its vision statement wants to reconnect and inspire society by changing the world into a better place one small step at a time.”
