We carried on as far as Montrose, where we sat a while in the hope of seeing the leopard again.
Lightning doesn’t strike twice, well not with us anyway
I can’t remember, and we have no notes on this, but about 45 minutes after passing the lions we spotted this cheetah in the riverbed.
I presume near Batulama. No matter, it was great to see Corinne again
Not a bad compromise on a leopard
We turned around and went back to Kamqua for brunch, without stopping at the lions, as the amount of cars sort of freaked Debbie out
We had a lovely meal and decided to try our luck at the lions once again

Lovely as always ...
Those traffic jams are becoming a problem ....more and more people visiting the park. I am also rather intolerant with cars blocking the road....

Unfortunately bad manners have become far too common
That's what happens when driving on the wrong side of the road but you got some nice pics anyway
Even Corinne

Re: A Cat a Day, almost every day: Kgalagadi Oct/Nov 2023
Hi everyone, sorry for the confusion which follows. These first pics relate to the start of our drive which were omitted earlier
Monday, ok let’s try and remember (with the help of photos and sketchy notes)
We left camp at gate opening time and set off down the Auob River
Near Kalahari Tented Camp we had some cheetah spoor on the road, which resulted in a bit of excitement in the car, but unfortunately we could find no hide or trace of the cheetahs
Just before Craig Lockhart we had a glimpsing sighting of a lioness up on the dune on the right.
She quickly disappeared into the dunes
A bit further on we came across this small herd of gemsbok in the riverbed.
Always worth a photo or two
At 13th Borehole we came cross another lion. This time, a very flat male.
He must have had a busy night, as he wasn’t going anywhere
The section of road between 13th and Kamqua was pretty productive
We spotted this Cape Fox hiding under a bush
A bright yellow cape cobra on the side of the road
And this swallow tailed bee eater busy doing its morning thing
OK now back to the present
After our brunch we travelled the 9kms back to the lion kill at Montrose, to find a lot less cars at the sighting
We got some amazing images of the kill (if not a bit gory .... Sorry)

We eventually decided to head back to Mata Mata
At Rooibrak, a lappet faced vulture was having a drink
And the Flat male lion at 13th Borehole hadn’t gone far

We spent the rest of the day back in camp with the meercats out and about again.
The paparazzi were in full attendance,
as was Debbie, who got some more classic shots

Supper that evening included a bottle of Arendsig Pinotage, a wine we had chosen for my son’s wedding due to happen the following January

Lovely stuff, Gavin!
Interesting those braaistands with the raised wind covers at the bottom, we don't have that down here!
All sorts of cats again, and nice kill shots!
And love the paparazzi!
