Needs Attention: Kruger Park

Post by Richprins »

Post all Problematic Issues regarding Accommodation, Maintenance and Service in The Kruger Park here.

Send email address/contact number to me via PM please!

Please include relevant dates and times!

I will forward to the Specific Kruger CAMP MANAGERS or rangers etc.

An important adjunct is for viewers to report back regarding progress re. these deficiencies.

THEY WILL MOSTLY ONLY BE DECLARED "RESOLVED" AFTER INDEPENDENT VERIFICATION

For example, being a local I could request to stay at a specific accommodation unit on my next trip and check, or go and check whatever on my next rambling trip.

PLEASE DO NOT GO INTO ACCOMMODATION THAT IS NOT YOURS TO CHECK ON THINGS!!!

Photographs are very important, but not the end of the world!

IT MUST BE STRESSED THAT THIS IS IN NO WAY AN ATTEMPT TO UNDERMINE THE RELEVANT CHANNELS OF COMPLAINT ALREADY IN PLACE OFFICIALLY!

Rather, it is intended to assist and complement said channels, and provide feedback.

Re: Needs Attention: Kruger Park

Post by Sprocky »

17-10-2011 I have a major problem with the Phalaborwa area. The Phalaborwa gate has become a convenient point of entry to neighbouring Mocambique. There are overloaded, and presumably unroadworthy vehicles using this gate on a daily basis. They don't keep to the speed limit and often transport people in the back of these LDV's. The vehicle in this photograph could not start without being pushed, as you can see it stalled trying to enter the gate and the occupants had to get out and push start it. What would have happened should they have stalled next to Lion or a herd of Elephant?

I will post more photos showing what other vehicles enter the park. They only use this route as it is shorter and there are no traffic officials that check the vehicles for road worthy certificates. If they stick to the speed limit of 50Kph it would be faster going around Kruger. Can SANParks not enforce the same rule that they have in Kgalagadi, that you need to book two nights accommodation inside the park if exiting into another country. The transitters don't need to make use of the accommodation, but the cost's will at least put them off.

Sometimes it’s not until you don’t see what you want to see, that you truly open your eyes.

Berg-en-Dale - No. 31 - 21/25.5.2011
lack of protection (Moquitos nest or other) at the bathroom window = a vervet entered into the bungalow ... Fortunately I was there (completely nude......, from the shower) and has not had time to destroy ! I found, on time, how to help him to go out...
I have pictures of my note for the next 5 days, asking not to open the window !

Response from Duty Manager at Berg en Dal regarding Query unit 31. Received 29-10-2011

I would like to thank you for your e-mail that you have just sent today and also to send an apology to the guest from Switzerland for having to witness the vervet entering their unit.

On behalf of Berg en Dal management please allow me to express our appreciation for your feedback.

The issue of not having protection at the bathroom door is unacceptable and we promise that it will be rectified with immediate effect from our maintenance side.

We promise that next time the client visit they do not experience such kind of a problem at Berg en Dal.

Resolution Pending

Response received from Phalaborwa Gate Manager 29-10-2011:

Acknowledgement for your positive feedback with regard to the unroad worthy vehicle transiting to Mozambique.

The picture you’ve attached to your e-mail has been identified and dealt with as this happen in 2008, to be honest with you such kinds of vehicles are no longer allowed entrance.

We have discussed this matter to the higher level of authority so as to stop such kind of vehicles as they are damaging the image of our park. It is important to keep us posted with any wrong practices that can destroy our environmental area of responsibilities.

I would appreciate your continued support and assistance that will best help to manage our park as pride and joy for the people of South Africa.

Issue Partially Resolved
