It's a pity, because the story of the creation of Kruger is very interesting, if you keep to the important facts.

I have three problems with this:

Firstly, as said, the Museum used to be just that, with a lavish selection of wildlife dioramas, rangers tales, reading material, animal info etc. Which should surely be its purpose?

Secondly, I wonder what a foreign visitor, most of whom pitch up at Skuks at some stage, would make of this after travelling thousands of km and expecting the above?

Lastly, I wonder if the political part may not ring a bit more hollow 20 years later, re Mrs Carruthers' overarching input from 1996, in the heyday of post apartheid celebration. Racially identifying rangers now, for example, is irrelevant in Kruger? And increasingly an example of ironically clinging to the past in mainstream South Africa, perhaps?

As an ironic example, our school head boy of this year is a black chap who was adopted by white parents after being discarded, and is Afrikaans in essence and is comfortable with that and speaks no indigenous language other than Afrikaans...so what now? -O- :-?

I like your post, RP

The foreigner would not understand one bit of what they are talking about 0*\

Your last example is the perfect way of how things should be \O Not meaning that all the black children living in the street should be adopted by a white family, but that whatever the colour of the skin, the language and the culture, everybody should be treated and treat the others in the same way.

There will always be social and intellectual differences and that is normal, you'll find them in every country, but not because of the colour of your skin, but due to the single persons behaviour, good-mannered or ill-mannered, intelligent or stupid.

There are a couple of stuffed animals, and as said, the reading section is presumably open again! \O
