We left Gharagab at about 7am and with Debbie at the helm as she prepared for the mornings
4 x 4 driving

The road out o Gharagab is quite challenging, with numerous dunes to practice your driving skills before you get to the last, and most technical dune just before the Nossob riverbed

Debs made the most of the practice runs and got over the monster first time. No problem except for a husband who complained endlessly that she was bouncing around too much for his liking

We drove back to Polentswa, collected our trailer from the Lodge and set up camp.


We saw absolutely nothing the whole day so all I have to show you from that Monday are some scenic photos of our evening drive

Our second cat free day!
It had been a pretty hectic night, where we did not get much sleep. We had decided to put the fly sheet over the tent and had not secured it properly.
And the wind decided to blow up a storm

Flap flap flap.
Grrr Grrr Grrr

Needless to say we were awake early and set off as soon as we could to the Polentswa waterhole, where we sat for a while.


With nothing much going on, we decided to head up north to Lijersdraai, where we did one of the off road loops.

Still nothing to be seen
Well not really, I am lying. On our morning drive we did see:

Another little Sh*t (AKA as a Black Backed Jackal)
( The reason for the name is to follow in a few episodes time )

Before we went back to camp for brunch

An evening drive down south to Kousant was also pretty uneventful, barring a sighting of the Juvenile Bateleur Eagle at the Polentswa waterhole

This evening, with no wind and a stunning sunset we celebrated another day in the Kgalagadi with a great braai and a glass or two of the Cape’s finest

We woke up to the best sound in the world
Lions roaring, and getting closer


So, as soon as we could, we set off to the waterhole to see if we could find them.
Lot’s of lion spoor on the road, but no lions.


We waited around for a while, but all was quiet.

I needed to do some payments on the internet for work, and we needed to top up with diesel and ice, so we needed to get to Nossob.
The road down was quiet.


We did see this Pale Chanting Goshawk,

and when we got to Bedinkt, we heard that there were lions at Cubitjie Quap

Well when we got to Cubitjie Quap, I knew that work’s payments would need to wait


We had mating lions right next to the road,
