Ja...it is a silly release, but the trucks hit the big animals and kill them. As said on news24 comments, you can't see the hippos in the dark, especially in rainy weather...so not the end of the world!

An SP truck killed a black rhino back in the early 90's for example, near Kwaggaspan. The thing is with trucks is that they have a very high ground clearance, and massive momentum, even at low speed!

I think the same happened to Heksie's hippo!

The Army has been in Kruger for many decades indeed, long before new .gov took over...

Agreed, not the same Army now at all! O/

There is some confusion here. Heksie saw a dead hippo in Kruger in December. The story she was told was that poachers killed it thinking it was a rhino.

The above article refers to a hippo killed in February in Kruger.

Hope that sorts it out. \O
I think both were killed by vehicles!

Thanks, Flutts! O0

Officials worldwide are normally happy to make quick pronouncements and judgements when they are in the clear, but once "investigations", "hearings" etc. are announced, you know it is a problem they want to go away...so watch this space, without much optimism! 0*\
