No, it's not the same calf. I won't mention the name yet, lets wait for the name to be released officially from CFW, all I can say is that it was not Timbi.

RP, I never sort of said that it was not that bad!!

This where all are sheltered!!! It leaves me somewhat doubtful
and totally up-rooted!!!

Five arrested for killing of orphaned rhino

Five suspects were arrested on Tuesday night in an operation involving various conservation police units and the MTPA.

The heartbreaking site of an orphaned rhino calf that wouldn't leave its mother's side.

MBOMBELA – Five suspects were arrested on Tuesday night in an operation involving various conservation police units and the MTPA.

The five are suspected of killing Sabi, an orphaned rhino sub-adult bull, at Care for Wild Africa.

According to Ms Petronel Nieuwoudt, owner of Care for Wild, on the night of 19 August members of MTPA, Tactical Response Team of the SAPS Nelspruit, SANParks and the organised crime unit of Middelburg , arrested the five suspects.
Sabi was shot in his boma at Care For Wild Africa on the night of 7 August.

His horn had been trimmed to a stump, yet he was shot and killed. His stump and his front legs were butchered from his carcass with a saw.

The weapon used to shoot Sabi was apparently found in the ceiling of one suspect’s house.

The saw that was used to hack into Sabi’s face to remove his stump and to amputate his front legs, was also found by the dogs of the K9 Conservation Anti-poaching Unit, along with other crucial evidence.

“Well done to all of the investigators and teams involved in making these arrests, said Nieuwoudt this morning.

Sabi was moved to Care For Wild Africa after surviving the poaching of his mother in the Sabi Sand over a year ago.

“The .375 bullet that killed his mum, had ricocheted into his side and could not be removed. With a lot of time and devotion, Sabi had recovered from his wound and was growing well, but he was no match for this brutal gang. Both the bullet that killed him and the bullet that had remained in his side were retrieved during the post mortem conducted after his death. The bullets will now serve as evidence in the investigations and prosecutions of the poaching incidents that killed Sabi and his mother,” said Nieuwoudt.

Lowvelder: Rhino calf’s alleged poachers’ case postponed again

This is the second postponement in the case which is due to a lack of legal representation on the accused’s part.
Helene Eloff | 9 February 2015 06:05

MBOMBELA – On Tuesday the case against the alleged poachers of a rhino calf, Sabi, was postponed for a month in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court. This is the second postponement in the case which is due to a lack of legal representation on the accused’s part.
The sub-adult rhino was brought to Care for Wild Africa after it survived its mother’s poaching in Sabi Sand in 2013. The .375 bullet which killed Sabi’s mother and injured the rhino calf, had also been removed from its carcass along with the bullet which killed him.
The case against Messrs Thokozane Jabulane Ngwenya, Kenneth Alex Mthombothi, Promise Mandla Lamula, Mthobisi Lenox Ngwenyama and Russel Mokoena was postponed during their court appearance on Friday. The five accused are due to appear in court on March 2.
Ngwenya, Mthombothi and Mokoena’s bail conditions were extended. Ngwenya, who has not yet paid the bail amount of R1 500, would remain in custody until this condition is met. Ngwenyama and Lamula would also remain in custody until continuation of their case as they had not been granted bail.

MBOMBELA – A man believed to be one of three suspects in the killing of the rhino poaching police investigator Joseph Baloyi was arrested on Thursday and will appear in court on Monday.
“We cannot divulge any more information on the matter due to the sensitivity of the topic,” said Hawks spokesman Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi. “The main suspect, Mthobisi Lenox Ngwenyama, is still at large and we do not want to harm the investigation. We know they are monitoring the media to hear where we are with the investigation.”
Ngwenyama (33) is believed to have shot Baloyi in his driveway on Wednesday. Ngwenyama escaped from police holding cells at the Nelspruit Regional Court when he had to appear on a poaching charge on May 13.
Baloyi was investigating the poaching of a rhino calf at Care for Wild Africa in 2014 in which Ngwenyama was a suspect.
“We believe Ngwenyama was the one who pulled the trigger,” Mulaudzi said.
The suspect also faces charges of robbery, robbery with aggravating circumstances and housebreaking.
Anyone with information regarding Nqwenyama’s whereabouts can contact Warrant Officer Mogale on 082-462-1385
