Go back, take a leaf and brake it to check if there is latex and check the bark
Sure that there are no Combretum-like fruits (maybe high up)?
If you want ID for a winter tree you must provide some good data
A good photo of leaves should also show how the leaf is attached to the twig and upperside plus underside

Ok went back...no latex, multi-stemmed...still can't get the

camera to focus on the twigs, so will go back again!
One leaf was red one side and green on the other!

It may be Tamboti, the young trees have grey smooth bark and the older trees
Or there are different trees in a clump.
Go back when there are fresh leaves, flowers and fruits

Ok, don't think tamboti, as it was alone and there were tambotis in a clump nearby at the spruit?

A medium Marloth tree, evergreen!
No thorns or fruit!
