It depends on what your photos should be used for IMO
The first one is natural, the second one more dramatic. What about something in between?

I prefer the first one, Flutts!
Wildebeest are terrible regarding contrast, with their ugly black mugs!
Auto-correct works well for me mostly, on MS Office, so you can then choose?

Fling in a B/W at high contrast Flutts, let's see<...
It's all about trial and error, till you find the right
purpose that will justify the "so called ugly shot"
I speak from the point of view such as zebra and
line drawings,....give it a shot, don't have to be old
photo's only,...

I like both shots for different reasons. Out of interest what software have you been playing with?

Although I like the crispness in the second photo, I find it a bit too enhanced.

Thanks everyone. Very interesting...I find the original photo quite dull and flat with bad lighting! I also wonder how everyone's different monitors affect how we see photos.

Thanks PJL. I've been using Gimp. It is apparently similar to Photoshop (although I wouldn't know as I've never used PS), and it's free to download.

I also play around with Photoscape which is also free to download.

So the first one has had nothing done to it at all. In the second one I was trying to go for something more artsy.
This is probably how I would fix it if I were to use it in a TT.

My PC monitor is not HD, for example...
But maybe not a big deal...I just am not a fan of "manipulated" pics!

No need to

. I find it interesting to see what others like and don't like.
