Not sure why this is getting so complicated -O-

Anyhow, I am going to try changes bit by bit and see if it improves.

For a start have ordered a few of these to lift the coals up, so will see how that goes.

Was also talking to a friend of mine. He said I could be using rubbish charcoal. It's the standard cheapo from the supermarket.
I do have a bag of restaurant grade charcoal, so will give that a go too
The SS grid is a good start \O
Do your adjustments at your leisure my friend . You'll get much more enjoyment out of it .
You slowly learn what to expect from the braai in all its moods .
Charcoal is charcoal , and it all burns the same , however , the more intense the heat is that you use to start it up and get it going with , the hotter your coals will glow too .
You have already found out that the gel-stuff is crap , so chuck it out .
Use some newspaper and sticks , get it going , add the charcoal on top of it to get it going properly , and build up a bed of coals .
Patience , patience ........

You obviously do not know how to make a fire 0*\

I did it like that when you were still in nappies! One uses firelighters now! ;-)

Those firelighters are usually soaked in paraffin or such other fossil fuel , and is NOT environmentally friendly .
Paper and sticks are sustainable .......

Interestingly, a couple of years ago at TEBA, we had forgotten firelighters...I had to go old school and get twigs and dry leaves out of the bushes to light the braai wood. Worked fine and I felt quite testosterony! :-0

In SA you get those nice Charka brickets
Here some of the charcoal can be really questionable. Low quality that burns quickly and doesn't produce much heat
The restaurant grade charcoal is lumpwood coal that comes in decent sized chunks, and is quite dense. Used it in my last braai and it burnt really nicely. So will see how I get on with that.
Prob on the weekend.

Yup, that gel was rubbish. But thought it was worth a go.
Have some decent fire lighters. So will use those
Don't have decent trees on my property, so sticks are not easy to come by.
