You have never seen a Lanner ???? Seriously ??? You haven't lived ....says me who has never seen a Woodland Kingfisher.... lol lol lol
So if you go to the KTP ...you are almost guaranteed a sighting a Lanner Falcon. I have just finished planning a trip to Kruger for 23 nights in Sept/Oct...am I going to see a Woodlands ....probably not :( :(

Oh and I am not sure what that Moorhen was up to....I can only think it was seriously lost.... lol

The falcons are splendid raptors ^Q^

The pygmy falcons are among my favourite birds. I am always wondering about evolution when on the one hand you have one of the "normal" falcons and on the other a pygmy falcon :-?

Just a few more bird photos before moving on....:)

This was another bird in short supply on this trip . As a matter of fact it was the only one that we saw...
Spotted Thick-knee

It is great to see a Martial Eagle...even better when you see two together. I was wondering whether they were choosing a suitable nest to set up house ??

And two Ostriches making sure their species survives ...
Imagine our surprise when we saw that the female was actually sitting on a nest while all this was happening...

When your day starts with this .....

and ends with this....

you feel very privileged that you are able to visit this park time and time again.

The day had been amazing ... but more about that in the next episode.....

Impressive variety of rare bird sightings! I saw a few waterbirds myself in April, but far less than I expected after the heavy rain on the 2nd.

The lanners were still aplenty in April. Never seen so many on a single trip.

Lovely start to the day \O

Just have a look at the size of the brain lol

A little Grebe is not exactly a common sight in KTP. I always wonder where they are coming from :-?
