And then the highlight of the day(trip?)
We saw a few cars looking in a tree on the right-hand side of the road as we headed back.
Owls, we assumed
Nope, not owls.
Instead, this chap was posing like a film star on a branch not 2 meters above the road.

Quite an adventurous day, Gavin!
Lovely light for the pics, I love the giraffe!
And of course the Africa Wild cat for a highlight!
Glad you got a nice spot.

Funny how the giraffes are always concentrated in the same area

We returned to Mata Mata, getting there just after 1pm, and after a break from the car, we set about pitching our home for the next two nights,
(only after having the divorce avoidance pre tent pitch dop)
All set up, happy campers

We had a couple of visitors to our campsite that evening.
Like this ground squirrel
A starling checking out the (yet to be used) braai
And a yellow mongoose trying it’s luck for scraps
We had an awesome first evening in Mata Mata before retiring at about 9pm, all ready for the next day

Re: A Leopard’s Tail: KTP April/May 2023
Sunday 30 April 2023 Mata Mata
It was pretty chilly when we woke up early enough to be one of the first cars out of the gate.
Not that that makes too much difference, as we travel slowly, and it doesn’t take too long for loads of other cars in search of cats in the loops to overtake us.
Just before Sitzas a martial eagle was perched on a tree right over the centre of the road.
Unfortunately as we approached, it decided to fly off down the road
This has to be one of my favourite photos of the trip

But only as far as another tree on the right, where it stopped, and did some awesome posing for us in perfect light.
