We decided to go up to the picnic site to watch the sunset



And then we headed home


The lions were still on the dunes, but too far away to photograph


So it was a great braai and bed on a very windy evening

It does look hot with the animals in the shade so much...

And some more cats!

Friday 27 October 2023 ( and we thought yesterday was crazy!!!)


We had an early 6am and started and from Kieliekrankie we set off to the Auob River, and then down south as far as Kamfersboom in the hope of spotting some rosettes.
It was not to be, as all was pretty quiet, so we turned and set off north


Returning to the Auchterlonie , just after the Lower Dune Road we came across 4 lions in the riverbed.




They did not hang around for long, and were soon up and over the dunes.
(Maybe going south was a mistake )


Our next sighting of note was of this tiny, and I mean tiny, Rooi Hartebeest calf walking along the riverbed with the rest of it’s herd

Carrying on, for the first time in a long while we got to see some spotted hyenas

After watching them for a while and realising that they were pretty settled, we carried on north


Not a bad decision as not long after Batluama we came across this kitty trying it’s best to hide away

Once the African Wild Cat had disappeared we carried on, and not too long after we came upon a tower of giraffe were enjoying the waterhole at Batulama






As well as a herd of wildebeest walking to the waterhole


And to continue with the cat fest
Corrine was sleeping in the riverbed

Lions do not ruin the day either

We had heard that there was a leopard which was often seen at Montrose, so we decided to go there and have a look see
There were a few other cars at the waterhole waiting, so we decided to join them for a while

All was quiet, but suddenly I saw movement on the side of the road
This stunning cape cobra was on the hunt






We waited at the waterhole for about an hour before we left to carry on to Kamqua

Most animals were by now well hidden under trees and bushes hiding from the sun
These meercats obviously didn’t get the message







After 4 hours in the car, we decided to head back to Kieliekrankie for a break and some lunch
