The mopani worms harvesting project is part of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Protected Areas Act and South African National Parks policy to allow for the sustainable use of certain natural resources.

That is nonsense, and "name dropping".

I doubt whether IUCN has any knowledge of this yearly project!

It is certainly not specifically mentioned in the Protected Areas Act !

Back to SP's social upliftment program. I notice Mabunda and his cronies refer to the partnership between SP, .Gov, local communities etc, but never once even acknowledges that it is the people of this country and from all over the world that visit our National Parks that are providing the finances, and guess what, a lot of them are probably what he would class as the "elitist, old world, stick in the mud" group that he insults, shows disdain for and generally dislikes.

SANParks cancelled the collecting of firewood in the bush for picnic spots/camps etc. about 3 decades ago, due the recognition that logs are a major stabilising factor regarding bush rejuvenation...protecting seedlings from herbivores, for example.

That is why gas skottels were introduced to picnic areas years ago, end of story!.....

It was quoted in a book that the power lines crossing Kruger have no real impact on the park!!
It could be seen as a mere aesthetics setback.

Yet when looking closely, a whole strip of natural bush was destroyed, to accommodate that power line!!

When going to Kruger I am led to believe that I will be free in the bush,
a wonderful experience!,.. sounds good enough, yet when I travel through the park
I see for endless kilo meters little piles of wood collected, packed at the kerb for collection.

My idea of travel through Kruger always seemed to be a face to face scenario of untouched
natural beauty!!

I guess the integrity value of Kruger has gone and was set aside for a more practical state!!
