Re: BT on the trail of the mythical Pangolin

Post by BluTuna »

It was late when we finished our meal last night so I skipped the report. I may not be able to get a connection at Balule so I will probably be offline until Friday.

We discovered by accident that the old picnic area at Shingwedzi (the new picnic site, outside the gate is still broken) now gives an unbroken view down the river towards the setting sun. This makes for excellent photo opportunities at sunset.

We went up the Mopongolo loop yesterday morning, or at least we went up 60% of it as the southern section is closed. Again, not much to see but it is one of the nicest drives in the Park.

Today we went to Pafuri. The scenery is still as beautiful as ever and we saw something we'd never seen before - water flowing down the Limpopo River!

t's the same guy who closes both gates, in my experience...he does that one first, toddles off to close the other one,

That's what they told us at reception when we tried to tell them that they should inform people when they book into the camp. I've never found the gate closed before, I can foresee potential for a major accident caused by someone speeding down a dark dirt road, trying to get to the front gate before it closes!

Thanks again everyone for the comments. Time to hit the sack now - moving day tomorrow.

Enjoy, BT!

Limpopo flowing for a few years now in dry season...but should stop soon? Most flows under the sand... X#X

We're Baaaaaaacccck! Thanks again for the comments everyone \O

3,700 pictures to work through but I'll get onto the Travel Tale as soon as I get the first batch processed.

It was an interesting trip; the fickle sightings gods saw to it that we missed spotting one of the Big 5(!!!) but made up for it by giving us a stunning sighting of one of the others! BC and his menagerie would have quickly gone from Pelicans, proceeded through Spoonbills to full-on Marabous! I already knew that we wouldn't see much game as we were spending most of our time in the north.
