There are things called books - we have a library that goes with us to game reserves, lots of bird books (Sasol, Roberts, Newmans and the Raptor guide) plus books on Mammals, Snakes, Reptiles, Insects, Scorpions, Spiders, Butterflies, Frogs, Flowers, Trees and a few I can't recall right now.

Can you get apps for all of those?

The BirdLasser app is not for IDing birds. It is purely for recording your sightings. \O

And without the above mentioned library you just record a sighting as "unidentified creature" -O-

I take a lot of pics of unidentified birds, so even paper and pen will not help lol

from Europe more easy to carry a tablet than lot of booksssss... remember ONLY 20Kg (sometime 23Kg) O-/
and like said Flutts, we can enter the sightings ;-)
I have too a pen and a carnet/paper
my memory is no more 20 =O:

I have a few bird books including Roberts , but the one I use most is : Complete Photographic Field Guide of South Africa , by Ian Sinclair and Peter Ryan . It has over 2500 actual photographs of birds .
