Dzombo - I saw Ratlhogo in December and again now after the rains.
It is full - not a dry patch anywhere.
All the other dams are as full. Mankwe has no islands.
End December 2011
End January 2012

Amoli,
That is a big difference. When I was there, there weren't even those few puddles.
They must have had a lot of rain!

Not a general shot of the dam, it still gives an idea.

BH is still a bit under the influence of the Noggas or he is getting old damn quick.
We did see behavior that got my hair stand straight up.
Not as bad as what Dzombo and Fluts describe, but just on the edge of being unruly.
A car passing us at great speed on a dirtroad when we were going up to a birdhide, Youngsters that are sitting on top of the cars while parents are driving etc.
Old, blind and just plain forgetful.
PN those kids on the roof of the car were inside the camp. Not that it isn't still illegal and downright stoopid, but I didn't see any of that inside the reserve. :?
Unless of course the usual happened at the time. I was visiting my planet. The other explanation of course is that when I was younger, my mind used to wander. Now it leaves me completely.

Are the ablutions of high standard, that is a great concern to me when camping

In a nutshell, I am so looking forward to the weekend
Hi Honeybee,
We were at Bakgatla end Dec2011 and end Feb2012.
I found the ablutions of high standard. It was very clean, always had hot water - even in December with a full camp.
The cleaners were in and out and never 'under your feet' :D
The toilets were spotless (N.B.!!) and there was always paper.
You will have a super weekend at Bakgatla. Watch out for the squirrels who come begging and the Myna's chasing them away out of jealousy.
The camping site has lots of birds to photograph

And, just a heads up.....Lis (our strictest mod) will love you forever if you bring back tons of squirrel pics!!!!
Thanks for the tip, Flutterby, I will keep that in mind :D
My camera is a Canon PowerShot SX30 IS, with a 35X Optical zoom, and can go to significantly more than that with digital zoom, but I hardly ever use the digital. It has an image stabilizer which is great for me, and I find that I can get great wildlife photographs using it with the optical zoom.
I will make sure that I come back from Bakgatla with a lot of photographs and hope that I do not bore you all to death
